1. The name of the Club shall be 'The Redwing Club'. The headquarters
of the Club shall be at Bembridge. The objective shall be to promote
the racing of Bembridge Redwings particularly from Bembridge.
2. The Club burgee shall be white with a pair of red wings in
the centre.
3. The officers of the Club shall be a Commodore, Class Captain,
Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, who shall be ex officio
members of the Committee. They shall be elected at the Annual
General Meeting of the Club taking office on the following First
of October. They shall serve for three years but shall be eligible
for re-election.
4. There shall be two meetings of the Club each year, one in
the Winter and the other during August, which will be the Annual
General Meeting.
5. It is desirable that candidates for membership of the Club
shall be members of the Bembridge Sailing Club. They shall be
either owners or prospective owners (whether sole or part) of
a Redwing. Election of Candidates shall take place by postal ballot.
In elections one black ball in five shall exclude. Potential purchasers
or part purchasers of a Redwing shall not be proposed or seconded
by the seller or part seller.
6. There shall be an entrance fee and an annual subscription
for each member which shall be paid annually by Banker's Order
on the 1st January of such sums as shall be agreed at the Annual
General Meeting. Unless a change in the entrance fee and/or the
annual subscription is proposed it shall not be necessary for
the fee(s) currently in force to be further approved at each Annual
General Meeting.
7. A former owner or part owner of a Redwing may remain a member
of the Redwing Club as an Associate member on payment of such
subscription as the Committee shall decide. Such member shall
have no voting rights but shall be entitled to attend General
Meetings of the Club.
8. Persons who are not owners or part owners of a Redwing may
be elected as an Associate Member.
Voting will be by postal ballot and one black ball in five shall
exclude. Associate Members may attend General Meetings of the
Club but shall have no voting rights. They shall pay such entrance
fee and annual subscription as shall be agreed at the Annual General
Meeting.
9. The owners or part owners of eight separate boats shall form
a quorum at general meetings.
10.Alterations or additions to the Club Rules or Class Rules
may only be made at the Annual General Meeting with two thirds
of those boats represented voting in favour. Details of the proposed
changes shall have been included in the circulated agenda of the
meeting. In all matters of voting there shall be only one vote
per boat.
11. The Committee shall consist of the Officers of the Club and
six owners or part owners of separate boats. Two members shall
retire annually and shall not be eligible for re-election for
one year. Three shall form a quorum. All vacancies shall be filled
by election at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee shall
be responsible for the entire management of the Club and their
decisions shall be final and binding on all owners.
12. An Associate Member of the Redwing Club who wishes to purchase
or part purchase a Redwing shall apply for election as a
Full Member in accordance with the provisions of Rules 5
and 13.
13. All candidates for election as Full or Associate members
shall be proposed and seconded by the owners or part owners
of 2 different Redwings, not being a Redwing in which the
candidate is or is about to become an owner or part owner
or in which he/she has regularly crewed in the past 2 seasons.
The Proposer, who shall have personally known the candidate
for a reasonable period of time, shall in his/her letter
of proposal give details of the sailing experience of the
candidate and the length of time that the candidate has
been known to the Proposer. Candidates shall be introduced
to as many members of the Committee as possible. Before
the name of the candidate is submitted for ballot in accordance
with Rule 5, the candidate shall first be considered and
approved by the Committee.
